The road to your driving licence should be safe, educational and effective. Whether you want to drive a manual or prefer an automatic, our experienced instructors will help you all the way from your first lesson to a passed driving test. We know the roads in Nordhordland and northern Bergen inside out, and we adapt the training to your level.
Your local driving school in Knarvik and Åsane
At Feste Trafikkskole, we want you to feel safe behind the wheel. We know the local test routes in Åsane and the surrounding area inside out, and we tailor every lesson so you get the most out of it. Whether we meet at our office in Knarvik or at a hub in Åsane, our goal is the same: to make you a safe and independent driver.
Step by step: the road to your driving licence
Step 1: Basic traffic course
This is the foundation. Here you'll learn about the traffic system, risk awareness and your duties as a road user. The course also includes first aid and night-driving.
- Who: For everyone under 25 (if you're over 25, you're exempt from parts of the course).
- Goal: To give you the right to begin practice driving.
Step 2: Basic vehicle handling
Now you'll learn to master the car technically. We focus on everything from gear changing and steering to eco-friendly driving, without involving too much other traffic at the start.
- Focus: Getting comfortable with the car so you can lift your eyes from the dashboard.
- Conclusion: The step ends with a compulsory step-assessment lesson, where you and your instructor decide together whether you're ready for the next step.
Step 3: Driving in traffic
This is where the real training begins! We drive in varied traffic in areas like Knarvik and Åsane. You'll learn to drive independently, read the traffic around you and make the right decisions at junctions and on the open road.
- Compulsory: Safety course on the practice track (skid training).
- Conclusion: Another step-assessment lesson to check that you drive safely enough to begin the final stage of training.
Step 4: Final training
Now you're almost there. The focus shifts from the driving itself to risk awareness, self-insight and reflection.
- Compulsory: Safety course on the road (long-distance driving). This is a comprehensive course where you practise planning and driving in varied environments.
- Goal: For you to become a safe driver who knows your own limits.
Our best tips for success
Research shows that those with plenty of driving experience before getting their licence are far less likely to be involved in accidents. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) recommends at least 110 hours behind the wheel before the driving test.
That's why we recommend spreading the training out over time. By combining lessons with us and plenty of practice at home, you give yourself time to mature as a driver. This doesn't just make you safer – it also helps keep your total costs down!

Frequently asked questions about category B/BAut licences
Can I get my licence on an automatic?
Yes, we have modern electric and hybrid cars for those who want a licence with code 78 (automatic). This is often a faster and more affordable route to your goal.
Where does the driving test itself take place?
Our students usually take their test at the traffic station in Åsane. That's why we focus a lot of the training in this very area, so you're as well prepared as possible.
How much private practice driving is recommended?
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration recommends at least 110 hours behind the wheel, or having driven more than 2,000 km, before you take the driving test. That works out to one hour a week for two years. This keeps costs down while also making you safer in traffic. We encourage accompanying drivers to join lessons with us to get tips for effective practice at home.
How long does it take to get your licence?
The time it takes varies depending on how much you practise privately, but most people spend between 3 and 6 months on the whole process. At Feste Trafikkskole, we adapt the pace to your everyday life in Knarvik and Åsane – whether you want to do it quickly or spread the lessons over a longer period.
How much does the licence cost in total?
The total cost depends on the number of driving lessons you need in addition to the compulsory courses. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration recommends plenty of practice to keep costs down. We have competitive prices on all individual lessons and compulsory components – see our updated price list for a full overview.
Can I be picked up at school or work for my lesson?
Yes, we're flexible! We can often arrange to meet at central hubs, schools or workplaces in Knarvik and Åsane, by arrangement with your instructor. This makes it easier to combine driver training with a busy school day.
