The dream of two wheels on the open road starts here. At Feste, we take you safely from your first balance exercise on a closed track to riding independently in varied traffic. With long experience, a strong focus on safety and a real passion for motorcycling, we help you reach your goal – whether you're aiming for a light, medium or heavy MC. We know the roads in Nordhordland and northern Bergen inside out.
Your local MC school
At Feste Trafikkskole, you'll feel safe on the bike from day one. We adapt every lesson to your level, and we always start in a large, closed area until you have good control before we head out into traffic. Long experience and a lifelong passion for riding on the open road have made us the first choice for many who want to fulfil the dream of an MC licence.
MC specialists
To give you even better training, we have partnered with Positiv trafikkskole AS in Bergen since 2023. Together we have established a dedicated school focused purely on MC training – Positiv & Feste MC skole AS. For you as a student, this means more specialised expertise and a better learning experience; the only thing that's different is the company name.
Tip: There's often high demand before holidays and days off. Get in early and plan your road to an MC licence together with us.
A1, A2 or A – what's the difference?
Category A1 – light motorcycle
For ages 16 and up. You can start practice driving from age 15, as long as you've completed the basic traffic course. A great place to begin your journey on two wheels.
Category A2 – medium motorcycle (up to 35 kW)
For ages 18 and up. If you already hold A1 and have held it for at least 2 years, you can upgrade to A2 through an extension course without a new driving test from the age of 18.
Category A – heavy motorcycle
For ages 24 and up with direct training. If you've held A2 for at least 2 years, you can upgrade to a heavy MC through a 7-hour extension course – without a new driving test – from the age of 20.
Theory test
At the earliest, you can take the theory test 6 months before you reach the age requirement for the category you want.
Step by step: the road to your MC licence
4 common steps for all MC categories
The training follows four steps and is largely the same for all MC categories. You take the compulsory basic MC course only once – it applies to A1, A2 and A.
Step 1: Basic traffic course
The foundation for all driver training. If you already have it (for example from a car licence), you're ready to move on.
Step 2: Basic training
Here you get to know the motorcycle and learn the technical skills: getting ready, setting off and stopping, changing gears and slow riding, steering, accelerating, braking and doing a safety check. First on a closed track, then gradually out into traffic.
Compulsory basic MC course: 3 hours of theory before you start the practical training, where you learn what MC riding involves, how to avoid accidents and what safety equipment is required.
Conclusion: A compulsory step assessment where you and your instructor see whether you're ready for step 3
Step 3: Driving in traffic
Now you learn to ride almost independently in varied traffic: riding technique, safe riding in different environments and assessing your own riding competence.
Compulsory safety course in precision riding technique: Held at Eikås motorsportsenter in Åsane.
Conclusion: Another step assessment before you move on to step 4.
Step 4: Final training
Here you really become road-seasoned. The compulsory on-road safety course is a longer, instructive MC trip (8 hours for category A, 5 hours for A2/A1) where you plan and ride independently, safely and effectively in demanding and varied environments. One of the most enjoyable parts of the whole training.
Theory test and practical test
The theory test is taken at a traffic station, and you must book an appointment online in advance. Remember to apply for your driving licence before taking the theory test. If you fail, you have to wait 2 weeks before trying again. If you need accommodations because you find the questions difficult to read, you can apply for an adapted theory test with an examiner present.
The practical test takes 65 minutes and consists of two parts. You must provide a motorcycle approved for the test yourself – most people rent one from us. When you arrive, you show valid ID, and it's cheaper to pay online in advance.
Part 1 – skills test: You start with a safety check and then ride five exercises in a closed area: slow riding and balance, cornering technique, effective braking, an evasive manoeuvre and braking in a curve.
Part 2 – traffic test: You ride a pre-planned route in varied traffic, with the examiner giving instructions along the way.
You get the result as soon as the test is over, with a written explanation you can take with you. The practical test must be completed within 3 years of passing the theory test.
The right gear – dress for the ride
On a motorcycle, you're responsible for your own gear for the lessons: an approved helmet, gloves, jacket, trousers and boots. Dress for the weather – riding is a fantastic feeling, but it quickly turns miserable if you get cold. If you're wondering what to get, we're happy to give you advice and tips before you start.

Frequently asked questions about the MC licence
What's the difference between A1, A2 and A?
A1 is a light motorcycle (from age 16), A2 is medium up to 35 kW (from age 18), and A is a heavy motorcycle (from age 24 with direct training). You can upgrade step by step from A1 to A2 and on to A through extension courses without a new driving test.
Do I have to take the basic MC course?
Yes. You must have completed the compulsory basic MC course (3 hours) before you can ride with a driving school. You only need it once – it applies to all MC categories. You don't need it to practise privately, but it's wise to take your first lessons with us anyway.
From what age can I practise driving for A1?
You can start practice driving from age 15, after completing the basic traffic course. The accompanying driver must be over 25 and have held a driving licence continuously for more than 5 years. Both of you must be able to communicate via hands-free or helmet communication, and wear a reflective vest marked with a red L on the back.
Can I upgrade from A1 to A2, or from A2 to A?
Yes. With A1 held for at least 2 years, you can upgrade to A2 via an extension course without a new driving test. With A2 held for at least 2 years, you can upgrade to a heavy MC (A) through a 7-hour extension course, also without a new driving test.
What gear do I need for the lessons?
An approved helmet, gloves, jacket, trousers and boots. Dress for the weather – we're happy to advise you if you're unsure.
Where does the MC training take place?
We're based in Knarvik (Kvernhushaugane 4, Isdalstø) and ride in Nordhordland and northern Bergen. The safety course in precision riding technique is held at Eikås motorsportsenter in Åsane.
When should I start on the MC licence?
There's often high demand before holidays and in spring. Start in good time, and we'll make a plan that fits your everyday life.
